Unexpected, Random, Spontaneous

Tonight I am thankful for:
  • a chai latte to start my day
  • the unexpected ways that I'm uniquely suited to my job
  • having to quiet my sons in the grocery store because they are laughing too loud as they play their made-up game in the back of the cart
  • tax refunds
  • all day Sonic happy hour
  • a friend who appreciates random Sonic runs
  • our backyard
  • friends who we can truly share life with
  • new plates for our meals outside
  • spontaneous bath times
  • the quiet of the evening after the kids are asleep
  • the way the Lord always makes a way

Snakes and Smiles

Wow! It's been a long time since I've posted a blog. I actually have many drafts that are thisclose to being published. Unfortunately they are quite outdated at this point. But, I want to start blogging and documenting our lives again, so here I go!

We headed over to Pasadena this morning to pick up Eli and give his mommy and baby Calvin a few hours and spend some special time with the new big brother! After a little finagling of car seats, we were off to the LA Zoo. We met up with Kim, Zoe and Audrey and spent the morning saying hi to Reggie the alligator, the sea lions, the koalas and the snakes. Oh, the snakes. About a month ago, the Lair opened. It houses all of the reptiles, amphibians, other creepy crawlies. If you know me at all, you know how I feel about this building. I despise it. I feel like I can't touch anything while I'm in there because I feel like something will crawl or slither on me. Ick! But the boys, of course, L.O.V.E. I.T. So it's become my sacrifice of love to them. Today we saw the rattle snakes, gave high-fives to the monitor, and (the kids) touched a snake skin.

The best part of this trip to the zoo was watching the kids all play together. Joel and Zoe dancing around, Eli following Silas around the Lair, and Audrey hanging out under the umbrella. So much fun! We are so blessed to have a multitude of great friends with great kids!

After a quick lunch, we had to head back to drop Eli off for a nap and then we were off to the dentist. It was the boys' second time to the dentist but I was a little nervous. Last time, they wouldn't so much as crack a smile, much less let anyone look at their teeth. We've been talking about it the last couple of days. I may or may not have promised a car from Target if they were good. Well, I'm happy to report no cavities and the dentist successfully counted, polished and sealed their teeth. It was amazingly stress free and while I don't think they want to go back next week, I think it was a very good "first" visit.

We headed to Target and the boys may or may not have picked out a Mustang (Joel) and a Corvette (Silas) to celebrate their successful dentist trip.

A fun day. A day that makes me thankful I'm able to be home with them most of the time and enjoy these fun days!
